What changes after this module

Middle managers overcome “prompt anxiety,” understand how AI shifts their role from doer/supervisor to coach and workflow-designer, and commit to redesigning at least one real workflow within 30 days.

Who should attend

Middle managers. Beginner: no AI experience needed.

Programme

This agenda is indicative. Content, sequencing, and examples are adapted to your team's context, tools, and objectives.

Before you start

  • A laptop and access to an approved AI assistant
  • Three recurring tasks from your own week
  • One team process that frustrates everyone
  • An open question you’d like AI to answer
19:00–10:00Your role is changing, not disappearing: The “frozen middle”: why middle managers get cast as the bottleneck, and why that’s backwardsBecause AI now does the information-synthesis and coordination that used to be your job, you have a real choice: block it to protect the old role, or lead the shift to a coach-and-workflow-designer role that’s far harder to automateRewired’s doctrine: the manager who owns an end-to-end slice and reimagines it with AI is the unit of transformation.
Hands-onOpening self-reflection: each manager lists the parts of their job AI could do today and the parts only they can do, then pairs up to compare and name the role they want to grow into.
210:00–10:30AI tools you should be using today: A grounded tour of what is genuinely useful right now in the client’s ecosystem (Copilot / Gemini / Claude / ChatGPT) for a manager’s real work: summarising, drafting, analysis, meeting prep.
Hands-onLive demo the trainer drives on a real managerial task the group picks (e.g. turning messy notes into a status update), so managers see the tool on their own kind of work.
10:30–10:45 · ☕ Coffee break
310:45–12:00Hands-on: your first real tasks: Guided, supported practice in the client’s ecosystemFirst prompts on real tasks, with the trainer circulating to unblock.
Hands-onEach manager completes three real tasks from their own inbox with AI and captures the prompt that worked in a shared team prompt library.
412:00–12:30How to evaluate AI output: “Verify then trust.” A 5-point checklist for judging AI output (accuracy, completeness, bias, source, risk) and where confident-but-wrong output hides.
Hands-onManagers score five AI outputs (three sound, two flawed) against the checklist, must catch the two flawed ones, then debrief what gave them away.
12:30–13:30 · 🍽 Lunch break
513:30–14:45Workflow redesign: The core new managerial skillMapping your team’s recurring workflows and rebuilding one with AI in the loop using the “AI does / Human reviews / Human decides” splitWorkflow redesign is the change McKinsey finds most correlated with real impact.
Hands-onEach manager maps their team’s top 10 recurring workflows, picks one, and redraws it on the three-column “AI does / Human reviews / Human decides” canvas.
614:45–15:30Managing your team through adoption: Reading your team: who is a resister, an adopter, a potential championAddressing job fear honestly (the WIIFM)Why adoption is won person-by-person, not by mandate.
Hands-onManagers place each team member on a simple resistance / readiness map and draft the opening line of the conversation they’ll have with one resister and one potential champion, then rehearses it live with a partner playing the resister.
15:30–15:45 · ☕ Coffee break
715:45–17:0030-day action plan: Turning the day into commitments: one workflow, one tool, one conversationA realistic first 30 days.
Hands-onEach manager writes a 30-day action plan (1 workflow redesigned, 1 tool embedded, 1 team conversation) and makes a public commitment to a peer who will check in.

  • Workflow mapping template (completed for their team)
  • 30-day action plan
