What changes after this module
Senior experts understand, from the evidence, how AI is changing what their expertise is worth, and deliberately choose how they work with it, so AI compounds their mastery instead of quietly eroding it.
Who should attend
Senior specialists. Beginner: no AI experience needed.
Programme
This agenda is indicative. Content, sequencing, and examples are adapted to your team's context, tools, and objectives.
Before you start
- A laptop and access to an approved AI assistant
- 2–3 real tasks from your own expert work to run in the session (anonymised if sensitive)
- An open mind about your current habits
- No coding or prior AI depth required
| 1 | 9:00–10:30 | The skill-leveling reality: What the research actually shows: AI lifts less-experienced workers most (a landmark call-centre study found the largest gains, around a third, went to the least-experienced) while the routine advantage of experts erodes: so where does your value now sit? Hands-onAudit your own week: mark which tasks AI can now level (a novice + AI could do them) versus where your judgment is still decisive. |
| 10:30–10:45 · ☕ Coffee break | ||
| 2 | 10:45–12:30 | The jagged frontier: Why AI is brilliant and confidently wrong in unpredictable places: with no obvious signal which side of the line a task is on: and why experts win here where novices get hurt (Harvard/BCG). Hands-onTake a real task, push it past AI’s reliable edge on purpose, and document where it produced plausible-but-wrong output that only your expertise caught. |
| 12:30–13:30 · 🍽 Lunch break | ||
| 3 | 13:30–15:00 | The three modes: Centaur, Cyborg, Self-Automator: The HBS/BCG/MIT finding that the same “human-in-the-loop” is enacted three ways with opposite effects: Centaur deepens domain mastery (highest accuracy), Cyborg builds AI fluency, Self-Automator hollows out. Hands-onRun the SAME real task, the one you’ll carry through the whole day, twice: once as a Centaur (you decide what and how, AI assists narrowly), once as a Cyborg (fused, iterative), and compare output, speed and what you learned. |
| 15:00–15:15 · ☕ Coffee break | ||
| 4 | 15:15–16:15 | Avoiding the hollowing trap: Spotting your Self-Automator habits (where you are quietly abdicating judgment); the performance paradox: output can rise while the underlying capability quietly erodes: and using task stakes to choose your mode. Hands-onIdentify one Self-Automator habit you have and redesign it into a Centaur or Cyborg workflow. |
| 5 | 16:15–17:00 | Your operating rule: Turning the day into a durable personal practice. Hands-onWrite your personal mode-selection rule (which mode for which task, by stakes and by where the frontier is) and your first two changes. |
Deliverables
- Personal task audit (level-able vs judgment-decisive)
- Your jagged-frontier notes for your domain
- Personal mode-selection rule
- Two workflow changes to make next week
