Regulatory statusRecommended for all staff. For anyone assigned to oversee a HIGH-RISK AI system, it supports the human-oversight duty (EU AI Act Art. 14 design + Art. 26 deployer operation, high-risk only, deferred to 2 Dec 2027 by the Digital Omnibus), not a duty on every AI user
ai-generatedWhat participants will be able to do
- Apply a structured critical review framework to AI outputs
- Identify when AI output requires expert validation before use
- Maintain meaningful human control in AI-assisted decisions
- Document human oversight in AI processes for compliance purposes

What changes after this module
Employees can critically evaluate AI output instead of trusting it blindly, knowing when AI is likely wrong, avoiding automation bias and over-reliance, and exercising the human oversight that high-stakes decisions, and the AI Act, require.
Who should attend
Everyone. Beginner: no AI experience needed.
Programme
This agenda is indicative. Content, sequencing, and examples are adapted to your team's context, tools, and objectives.
Before you start
- S1 recommended first
- No technical prerequisites
- Bring examples of decisions or outputs you rely on AI for
| 1 | 9:00–10:15 | Why AI is confidently wrong: Hallucination, the jagged frontier (brilliant then wrong with no obvious signal), bias; where AI is reliable and where it is not. Hands-onCatch the errors in a set of plausible-but-wrong AI outputs from everyday tasks. |
| 2 | 10:15–11:15 | Avoiding over-reliance & automation bias: The human tendency to defer to the machine; the “hollowing” risk; keeping your own judgment sharp; when a human must decide (people, safety, legal, money). Hands-onFor your real tasks, mark which must keep a human decision, and why: the map you’ll turn into an oversight step in the next block. |
| 11:15–11:30 · ☕ Break | ||
| 3 | 11:30–12:20 | Human oversight in practice: What meaningful oversight looks like: genuine friction, not a reflexive click or rubber-stamp; the Art. 14 duty for HIGH-RISK systems (understand the system’s limits, stay alert to automation bias, interpret the output, and be able to disregard or halt it) plus Art. 26’s deployer duty to assign a competent, trained, authorised overseer; the UNESCO principle of human determination; accountability and documenting your check, including for actions an AI agent takes on your behalf. Hands-onDesign a simple human-oversight step for one AI-assisted decision you are responsible for. |
| 4 | 12:20–13:00 | Wrap: Making verification a habit. Hands-onWrite your personal “verify-before-trust” rules and complete the reflection; where you are an assigned overseer of a high-risk system, complete the attestation too: the record that evidences your oversight training. |
Deliverables
- Personal verify-before-trust rules
- A human-oversight step for one decision
- Over-reliance self-check
